The azure storage sample code for key rotation demonstrates using multiple uniquely named secrets Manage azure access keys rotation with azure key vault & logic apps in my latest articles, i did not stop saying that we should not hard code the keys However, within keyvault it is now possible to create multiple versions of a single secret.

The new secret version (v3) is now the latest active version You can define policies to rotate secrets automatically after a set interval or upon detecting specific security events. Since the secret was configured to maintain two active versions, the initial secret version (v1) is now revoked in the third party provider and marked inactive in hcp vault secrets
If required, you can manually rotate the secret prior to the next rotation interval.
As opposed to one sys account to each logic app / vault, it would control key rotation amongst all of them I would still maintain separating functionality of key vaults by application using this method If anyone has some experience with implementing automated secret rotation policy i'd be curious to hear how you are implementing it. This project demonstrates automated client secret rotation for azure ad app registrations using azure functions, key vault, and event grid
It automates the process of generating and updating secrets to enhance security and streamline management. The above script generates a new client secret for a service principal and stores it in azure key vault and checks for any old secrets that expired and deletes them. This week, we’re talking about security, specifically how to use automatic key rotation in azure key vault In case you didn’t know, azure key vault’s automated key rotation improves security by creating new key versions at set intervals and sending expiration alerts via event grid.
Hi @bhakuni, priyanka (cw) , i got an update on the issue after discussing it with the function app team as follows
There are 2 ways in which the new value from azure key vault secret (referenced in function app) is loaded Configuration update (forced), which forces fetching the latest secrets while performing site. So far, we’ve implemented a new logic that captures an event published when a new secret version is added to azure key vault instance, and process the rotation management against the specific secret, using azure eventgrid, azure logic apps and azure functions Key vault can also request and renew certificates through partnerships with cas, providing a robust solution for certificate lifecycle management
For a comprehensive understanding of autorotation concepts and benefits across different asset types in azure key vault, see understanding autorotation in azure key vault. It will cover everything from setting up azure key vault, integrating it into a c# project, accessing and managing secrets, automating secret rotation, and implementing best practices. Azure key vault protects cryptographic keys, certificates (and the private keys associated with the certificates), and secrets (such as connection strings and passwords) in the cloud This article provides guidance on how to best secure your azure.
